Karen has been an artist most of her life. When her three boys were in school, and with the support of her husband Bill, Karen decided to go back and finish her education. She attended Indiana University and received her degree in graphic arts. Karen worked as an art director, advertising artist and illustrator for 30 years. Her decision to quit her full-time job came with encouragement from her family. Karen wanted to devote her time painting in her studio. Karen has won many awards in local art shows and festivals.
Karen likes to experiment with different techniques in order to give herself a variety of ways to express a subject matter. Teaching art, entering her art in various exhibits, and introducing art forms to a wide rang of people helps the creative process when her work of art communicates to the viewer.
Karen's primary media is watercolor. Her main subject matter is floral, however, she enjoys doing wildlife, animal portraits, and renderings of old buildings. Karen also works out of her studio at home and teaches watercolor in the evenings to adult students. Her family has benefited greatly from her artistic talent, since many of the paintings hanging in their homes are originals painted by Karen.
